“Building Innovation Bridges between Silicon Valley and Europe” was the conference called that took place in Palo Alto last Thursday, May 13th. Organized by GABA we got the chance to enjoy a lot of interesting speeches, learn more about enterprises in Silicon Valley and exchange ideas on how to connect these two “worlds”. Panel discussions and individual speeches gave us an overview of Europeans as well as Americans who reflected on the current innovators situation, shared their histories with us and discussed possibilities of how to integrate Europe even better into Silicon Valley. Thereby it was the tenor of the conference to install more and more European enterprises in the Bay Area since the conditions and opportunities here are excellent and leading in world-wide standards. A lot of European expatriate speakers who successfully made their way from Europe to Silicon Valley as either researchers, as entrepreneurs, as bankers or professors emphasized the spirit of innovation in the Silicon Valley, the creativity, the open-mindedness and the idea of working together within a condensed space. Therefore it should be made easier, especially with regards to visa matters, for Europeans to contribute to this Sillicon Valley eco-system which equally supports small, medium and big companies, as put by Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli, professor at Berkeley University. All in all this conference was an informative event that showed us ways and guidance of how to build and reinforce the flourishing partnership between Europe and Silicon Valley.
