Almost thirty years ago, Charlotte de Géry founded the International School of the Peninsula in Palo Alto. What began as a school of nine students in 1979 has grown to approximately 580 students across two Palo Alto campuses, and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the California Association of Independent Schools, and the French “Ministère de l’Education Nationale”.
With its nursery through 8th grade dual language immersion programs (French-English and Mandarin-English) and International Middle School, the ISTP is deeply dedicated to its mission: to educate children through a rigorous, bilingual curriculum that promotes critical thinking, international awareness and responsible global citizenship. The French-English program will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year, while the Mandarin-English program will celebrate its 15th anniversary in two years. Both programs cross-fertilize with one another, in ways that enrich the students’ learning experience.
Combined with a commitment to academic excellence, an ISTP education distinctive by increasing academic rigor through culture-immersion. Students have the opportunity to further their cultural immersion experience by traveling to countries like China, France, and Costa Rica. They are prepared to succeed in the most competitive schools and environments all over the world. Graduates of ISTP are able to meet new challenges with confidence while speaking two or three languages.
